Privacy Policy

Couch is a peer-to-peer video calling app. We collect as little data as possible. Most of what happens during a call never touches our servers at all.

1. What We Collect

When you sign in with Google, we store your basic account info — your name, email, and profile photo. We also record some basic usage data like when rooms are created and how long sessions last, so we can understand how the service is being used. This data is never sold or used for advertising.

2. What We Don't Collect

• No payment information — Couch is free
• No location data
• No contacts or address book
• No audio or video recordings
• No third-party tracking scripts — no Google Analytics, no ad pixels

3. What Stays on Your Device

Your display name for a room session is also saved temporarily in your browser and cleared when you close the tab.

4. How Calls Work

Your audio, video, and screen share go directly between you and the other person — peer-to-peer, encrypted. They never pass through our servers.

To set up that connection, we run our own signaling server that briefly passes connection handshake data between participants. This includes chat messages too. None of it is stored — it's relayed in real time and dropped immediately.

5. Third-Party Services

• Google (Firebase) — used for sign-in and storing your account profile. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Google STUN servers — used to help establish direct peer-to-peer connections.

6. Data Retention

• Your account info is kept until you ask us to delete it
• Usage analytics are retained in aggregate
• Call data and chat messages are never stored
• Moments stay on your device until you delete them

7. Your Rights

You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us below. You can delete your Moments anytime from within the app.
