Study together, even from two cities.
Some days you can't start until someone else is working too. A study partner on camera, quietly doing their own thing, is often all it takes. Couch's Study Room is built for exactly that.

How do you study together online?
Open a video room with your study partner, agree what each of you will finish, then work with cameras on and microphones muted or low. Take a short break together every 25 to 50 minutes. Having someone visibly working alongside you, often called body doubling, makes it easier to start and stay on task.

How to set up a study session on Couch
- 1
Open a Study Room
Sign in with Google and pick Study Room. Keep the link; it's the same room every time.
- 2
Invite your study partner
Send the link. They knock, you let them in.
- 3
Share a timer, if you want
From a desktop Chromium browser, share a timer or music tab with sound so you're on the same clock.
- 4
Come back tomorrow
Your room stays on your dashboard, with the time you've spent together adding up.
Tips that make the difference
- Prop the camera at desk height so you can see each other working without it feeling like a stare.
- Turn off the other notifications. The only thing on screen should be the work and the room.
- If one of you has a deadline, let them set the timer. The other follows.
- Agree that it's fine to sit in silence. That's the point.
Good to know
- Sharing a tab needs Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera or Arc on a desktop or laptop.
- Joining, talking, watching and playing work in any browser, phones included.
- Rooms hold two people. Anyone new has to knock first.

Questions people ask
What is body doubling?
Body doubling is working while another person is present, in person or on video, doing their own task. Many people find it easier to start and stay focused when someone else is working alongside them.
Does Couch have a Pomodoro timer?
Couch doesn't have a built-in timer. Instead, share a browser tab with any timer or study music, with its sound, so you both work and break on the same clock.
Can more than two people study in one room?
No. Couch rooms hold two people, which keeps sessions quiet and focused. It works best with one regular study partner.
Can I join a study session from a tablet?
Yes. You can join from any browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Sharing a tab needs a desktop Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera or Arc.
Is it good for long-distance couples who both study?
Very. A study session is a low-pressure way to spend weeknights together, and you can end it with a game or an episode.
